Toh, together with her ramp assistant Chew Zi Qun, started strong in the pool stages, defeating world no.6 Sonia Heckel in a tie-break (6-6), Finland’s Vivi Virtanen (4-3), and the Czech Republic’s Marcela Cernakova (5-1) before overcoming home favourite Joana Pereira (5-2) in the semi-finals. She fell short of gold after being beaten by ninth-ranked Dimitra Papadopoulou in the final 6-1.

In the BC1 competition, Tan was flawless in the group stage, winning all three matches. But she was halted in her tracks by Kim Younha in the semifinals, as the South Korean beat her 4-1. But she was able to grab a spot on the podium after dispatching Bermuda’s Yushae Andrade 8-0 in the bronze medal match.

“I’m proud of this achievement. I was nervous but overall happy with the outcome, and especially thankful for the support from the Singapore Disability Sports Council, my family and coach,” said Tan.
