It was a memorable day for Singapore golf as amateurs Brayden Lee and Troy Storm both made the halfway cut at the Moutai Singapore Open, marking a proud moment for the local game.
Both players held their nerve against a world-class field on the New Course at the Singapore Island Country Club (SICC), with Lee emerging as the leading local after another steady round following his opening 69.
The 18-year-old said, “I think it was a pretty smooth round today. I was hitting my drives off the tees straighter, so that’s always a plus. My putter didn’t really wake up until a couple of holes, so that was a bit disappointing. However, I still think it was a good performance overall, and I’m looking forward to the weekend.
“My goals going into the last two rounds are to just play normally without any extra expectations on myself; just the usual process, focused goals, and just try to finish as high as I can.”
16-year-old Storm also continued to impress as he fought back strongly from a tough front nine to close with three birdies in his last four holes for a 72, putting him at five-under overall. Storm shot a 67 in the opening round

At the top of the leaderboard, Korea’s Soomin Lee surged ahead with a superb eight-under 64, moving to 12-under overall and reviving memories of his runner-up finish at the same venue in 2011 during the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship. He leads by two shots heading into the weekend over a tightly packed group that includes John Catlin, Kevin Yuan, and Matthew Cheung.
