HSBC SVNS Singapore 2026 has announced the return of the Southeast Asian 7s (SEA 7s), as the National Stadium is set to stage a full weekend of rugby sevens from Jan 31 to Feb 1.
Running alongside the world series, the invitational tournament will feature eight Southeast Asian nations, giving regional teams the opportunity to compete on the same stage as the world’s elite.
The men’s competition will see Thailand arrive as defending champions, buoyed by their gold-medal performance at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games, while Singapore will defend their SEA 7s title after their maiden championship in the women’s competition last year.
Singapore Rugby Union general manager Sidney Kumar highlighted the key role the SEA 7s plays in the regional development of the sport.
“The SEA 7s is more than just competition; it’s a showcase of the passion and progress of rugby across our region,” he said.
Singapore women’s captain Victoria Chew welcomed the prospect of having family and friends cheering on in the stands.
“It’s an honour getting the opportunity to play at the world-class National Stadium, and to have the tournament happening alongside the prestigious world sevens series,” she added.
Former internationals Ruby Tui, Nathan Hirayama and Jerry Tuwai have also been appointed as ambassadors and will be involved in fan engagement activities across the weekend.
Former Canada captain Nathan Hirayama, who led his side to the Singapore Sevens title in 2017, said returning to the National Stadium as an ambassador “feels incredibly meaningful”.
“The energy here is unlike anywhere else, and it has been amazing to see how the sport has grown across Southeast Asia over the years. Coming back to be part of a weekend that brings together world-class rugby, regional pride and passionate fans is something I am truly excited about.”
France and Canada will meet in the women’s opener on Jan 31, followed by a men’s clash between France and New Zealand later the same day. The full match schedule has been released ahead of the event.
