The energy at Our Tampines Hub was anything but quiet as cheers, laughter, and applause filled the air. More than 1,300 people, including 570 participants from 50 Active Ageing Centres (AACs), came together for the finals of the inaugural Seniors National Games (SNG), capping off a nationwide movement that has redefined what it means to grow old actively.

Organised by Sport Singapore (SportSG), the SNG is part of Singapore’s SG60 celebrations, created to inspire seniors to stay active, connected, and confident through adaptive sports, which are activities designed to make movement accessible to all abilities.

The inaugural Games saw over 4,500 seniors across 110 Active Ageing Centres compete in five sports, namely boccia, disc golf, ladder toss, seated floorball, and sport stacking, during zonal heats held earlier in September. Each sport was carefully adapted to promote inclusivity and teamwork, showing that sport can truly be for everyone.

Mr Marcus Tan, Chief, Sport Development Group, Sport Singapore, said, “The Seniors National Games is more than a competition. It is an initiative to empower seniors of all abilities to embrace active ageing through sport. We understand that some seniors may feel hesitant about picking up new activities, but through adaptive sports, we want to demonstrate that age, mindset and physical abilities are not a hindrance to making lives more meaningful. The Games is also an avenue for participants to strengthen social bonds by creating opportunities for seniors to support and cheer for one another. In doing so, we promote health and fitness while building stronger, more connected communities.”

At the Finals, teams from AACs across Singapore showcased teamwork, determination, and plenty of joy. The winners included Loving Heart Multi-Service Centre (Jurong East) in boccia, Vanguard AAC (Senja) in disc golf, PCS Cedar Tree AAC (Toh Yi) in ladder toss, SNM AAC (Woodlands) in seated floorball, and Trans Focus AAC in sport stacking.

Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong joined participants at the Finals, congratulating the seniors and volunteers who made the event possible, as the Games concluded alongside the National Celebration of Seniors – an annual event organised by the Agency for Integrated Care.

The SNG represents a growing national commitment to building healthier, more connected communities through sport. By redefining competition and participation for older adults, it signals a shift toward inclusion, one where every movement, throw, and smile counts.
